KiN Update – Oct 2015

Dear subscriber,

KiN’s office is now open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 1pm.

Our fibre optic service area is expanding steadily and, over the next few years, will grow to cover all of Kaslo and everywhere north of Woodbury Creek (where homes are not too far apart). Thanks to funding from Industry Canada and Columbia Basin Trust, new connections to our fibre network are free! Being fibre-served increases your property’s value and desirability, and will attract certain types of information workers and telecommuters to the area.

KiN offers symmetrical bandwidth (unlike the ADSL service that uses a telephone line) which means your Internet speed is equally fast uploading or downloading. We offer generous monthly limits for data volume, with an option to upgrade to unlimited monthly data volume.

For wireless customers still using the old radios, we will be phasing them out in the coming year. The new ones perform much better, with lower failure rate, and new technology. There is a $100 installation charge for the radio upgrade, and then the new radio is rented from KiN for $5/month. This rental model gives you a lifetime warranty on the equipment and covers all future upgrades.

We are continuing to upgrade our backbone capacity. A new 1 Gbps fibre link in Crawford Bay gives us room to grow as it is upgradable to 10 Gbps. We are now using airFibre wireless technology to bring 200 Mbps of bandwidth north to Kaslo and Meadow Creek, and we will be upgrading our Meadow Creek fibre link from 30 Mbps to 100 Mbps. This means that even faster speeds will be available to wireless clients in the coming year!

Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.
