New High-Speed Internet Service Available in Kaslo and Area

KASLO—The Kaslo InfoNet Society (KiN) is now taking orders for high-speed internet service from residents in outer Kaslo, Schroeder Creek, Shutty Bench, Mirror Lake and Fletcher Falls, with introductory high-speed internet pricing starting at $39.95 per month.

For this expansion in their high-speed internet service, the new distribution tower is located across Kootenay Lake on Kaslo Mountain. Potential clients will need a reasonable "line of sight" to this tower for a reliable connection.

In addition to building the expansion infrastructure, KiN volunteers have also been busy installing service in their Lardeau Valley service area, where they now have more than 60 high-speed clients.

The "KIN Hotspot" in downtown Kaslo is now operational, providing free wireless high-speed internet in the hotspot zone until next spring.

The KiN board would like to thank KiN members, clients, supporters, donors, volunteers -- and Capt. Lance Delport and Capt. Bob McKnight of Riondel -- for making all this possible.

For more information about KiN or their services, visit www.kin.bc.ca or phone (250) 353-1-KIN (1546). Or drop into their new Kaslo office at 404 Front Street. Office hours are Monday and Saturday, 9am-12pm.

Kaslo infoNet is a non-profit society founded in 1996 with a mandate to create a community access network in the Kaslo area. Successes to date include: Launching wireless high-speed internet service in the Lardeau Valley; establishing free Community Access Program (CAP) sites at the Kaslo Library and J.V. Humphries School; creating summer employment for many students and youths to enable them to gain valuable experience in the high-growth information technology (IT) industry; launching www.Kaslo.org as a community portal for the Kaslo area; and providing web-hosting services to non-profit societies. Today KiN members are focused on bringing the benefits of high-speed Internet to North Kootenay Lake communities in order to overcome the urban/rural digital divide. KiN memberships are just $5 annually.
