Installation

The cost of installation depends on the difficulty of the install. A typical install will take 2.5 hours and cost starts at $100. Customer Premise Equiptment (or radio) is required for your high speed connection (price shown above). It mounts on a normal sattelite TV-style arm and needs to be pointed to one of our distribution towers. Cable (up to 100 feet included in the radio/arm price) is then run to your Point-of-Entry device, and from there to either your computer or router.

Keep your terrain in mind during the site survey, as our service relies heavily on line to site to our distribution towers. Your installer can determine the best setup for you during this time.

Recommended Routers

If you have more than one computer or own a laptop or other wireless device, we recommend using a wireless-capable router. There are literally hundreds of different models out there. If you're unsure, these models have been tested and approved by our technicians as we wouldn't recommend anything we wouldn't use ourselves. Your individual results may vary.

Entry Level: TP-LINK WR340GD (b/g) or Linksys E1200 (b/g/n)

Both routers offer decent range, reliability and performance for a decent price. Recommended for home use.

High End: TP-LINK WR1043ND (b/g/n) or Netgear WNDR3500L (b/g/n)

These offer somewhat better range and have advanced features like gigabit networking and USB ports for network storage. These work great for businesses or homes that share files between multiple computers.

Get Connected!

Here's how to do it: Pick up the Sign Up Sheet and Welcome letter sheet from the box mounted on the wall by the KiN office door (404 Front St., 2nd floor: Suite 1). Read both sides of both sheets. Then fill out and sign the installation form and return that sheet along with a cheque for $268.80 made out to The Kaslo Infonet Society to the KiN office. Slide it under the door if no one is there. You will be contacted by one of our technicians to arrange for installation. KiN serves communties between Ainsworth and Howser with the exception of Kaslo proper, which is served by Telus.
